Burns Soccer Cup Champions!

7th Mar 2018

Burns Soccer Cup Champions!

So proud of our footballers today after they won the BSS Competition at Cathedral Road Playing Fields, Armagh. Punching above their weight as always and competing with much larger schools they came up trumps after a series of fantastic performances. They won all 4 groups games which saw them through to the semi-finals. Amazingly they won the semi-finals and the final with two nail-biting penalty kick victories. The Final, in particular, was a marathon affair, with Drumhillery eventually emerging as winners after both teams took 9 spot kicks!

The results were as follows:

Group Stage
Beat Armstrong 1-0
Beat St Jarlath's 2-1
Beat Lisnadill 1-0
Beat St. John's (Middletown) 1-0

Semi-final
Beat St. John's on penalties

Final
Beat Armstrong on penalties

Well done team - you were brilliant! It was hard to pick a player of the tournament but this accolade has to go to captain and top scorer James Reid for his 4 goals and tireless and energetic running all morning!

Squad - Noah Zwecker, Nathan Nesbitt, Jessica Morton, James McCall, James Reid (c), Alanna Ewart, Daniel Nicholl, David Robinson, Jamie McGurgan, Nathan Bell.

Here's the great trophy they came home with!
